ErgoTEAM Analysis Tools

Energy Expenditure ErgoTEAM calculates how much energy a worker is using while doing the required work tasks of the job. Energy Expenditure is a whole body analysis and is calculated for each motion in the job. The average of all the motions is the job rating. Acceptable ratings assure that the energy required to perform the jobs are balanced out throughout the motions. As well, it ensures that the job is designed in a way in which the majority of the work force is capable of performing the work.

NIOSH ErgoTEAM calculates the effects of lifting while performing the required work tasks of the job. NIOSH is a lower back analysis. It is applied each motion that is considered a lift. A motion is considered a lift if an object is handled with both hands is raised or lowered at least 10” of vertical travel and is moved without walking. Acceptable ratings indicate that the combination of object weight, frequency, and postures is designed in a way in which the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the lift.

Strength ErgoTEAM calculates how much strength is required to perform the work tasks of the job. Strength is an upper extremity analysis that is applied to the back, shoulders, elbows, hands, and wrists. Acceptable ratings indicate that individual motions are designed where the combination of object weight value, body posture, hand and wrist posture, is designed in a way so that the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the motion.

Fatigue ErgoTEAM calculates the sustained muscle fatigue while doing the required work tasks of the job. Fatigue is an upper extremity analysis that is applied to the back, shoulders, elbows, hands, and wrists. Acceptable ratings assure that the combination of motions that use similar body segments are not situated in too close proximity. The job is designed so that the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the tasks.

Recovery ErgoTEAM calculates the required recovery time needed for performing work tasks of the job. Recovery is an upper extremity analysis that is applied to the back, shoulders, elbows, hands, and wrists. Acceptable ratings ensure that muscle groups have ample time to recover from usage and there is a balance of work and rest for the body segments. The job is designed so that the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the tasks

Strain Index ErgoTEAM calculates the impact of hand motions required for performing work tasks of the job. The Strain Index is a forearm, hand and wrist analysis and is calculated for the tasks and the whole job. Acceptable ratings ensure that the combination of force, frequency, hand and wrist posture and percentage of job cycle are not overly excessive. The job is designed so that the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the tasks.

Liberty Mutual Tables (Snook & Ciriello, 1991) ErgoTEAM calculates the maximal acceptable weight allowed for work in a user defined set of parameters. The Liberty Mutual tables, provide the user with the maximal acceptable weights for lifts/lowers, and carries, as well as maximal acceptable forces for pushes/pulls at given frequencies, heights, distances, and durations for a given percentage of the population. Acceptable ratings ensure that the weight being lifted/lowered/carried is not greater than that stipulated in the tables or that the force being exerted during push or a pull is not greater than that stipulated in the tables. The job is designed so that the majority of the workforce is capable of performing the tasks.

Physical Demand Assessment
The physical demand assessment (PDA) report is a summary of the physical demands placed on the operator when performing his or her work task(s). They may include information about walking distances, reach distances, weights lifted, and forces exerted. The report is intended to present an accurate picture to a medical professional who must make a decision regarding the suitability of an employee to perform their current work based on their medical conditions.
